Responding to the interviewer's questions, Kahn discusses her parents, her growing up in Columbia, SC, religious and social life there and related topics. Her father, Issac Kershbaum of Russia, took his mother's maiden name, Greher, arriving in New York City early in the 20th century and moved to the Columbia, SC area; Rabbi [David] Karesh made a match between Greher and Rebecca Cohen, who had moved from Russia/Poland to Wilmington, NC. The couple married ca. 1909 and their first daughter Serena (later married Freed), older sister of the interviewee, was born in that year. Kahn discusses various synagogues in Columbia, attendance at the Conservative Synagogue, Beth Shalom; Jewish stores and the farmers' market in Columbia; dance parties on Folly Beach in Charleston; dating between Columbia and Charleston Jewish men and women; and the Yudedum Club in Columbia. She talks about her courtship and marriage to Saul Kahn, with information on the family of his father, Meyer Bernard Kahn. Also includes some thoughts on the impact of Fort Jackson on Columbia, SC.
